With All That’s Happening Around The World, This Series Is More Relevant Than Ever!

The Rooms' Series

If you haven’t read this science fiction duology yet, please check it out. With all that’s happening around the world today, this unique dystopian series is more relevant today than ever.

The two books in this series are ROOMS and THE CHOSEN. They were originally published in 2014, but an updated version of each of them was republished in 2019. People who have read them have often commented on how extremely relevant they remain, even today, in an almost prescient way.

This is because within the plot of the two books there exists a deep and abiding concern over the growth of right-wing, autocratic/oligarchic governments across the globe that come to power often times by  promising their citizens that only they can improve their lives. However, in the end, these types of governments are influenced much more by the interests of large corporations and wealthy oligarchs than by anything else. When that is the case, terrible consequences inevitably arise for the poor, the middle class, for worker’s rights, the environment, for freedom, and for democracy in general. Sadly, this is even now beginning to happen in the United States.

I mention all this because I wrote the Rooms’ Series, in part, to cause people to ponder the possibility of just such a dystopian future. But you must also know that the series contains considerable “hope as well!”

So, please, take a look at ROOMS and THE CHOSEN, with the understanding that they contain a very creative, scene-driven story, told from the view of a large and diverse cast of characters.

Below is a brief summary of each of these books.

ROOMS

Summary

There was a time in Earth’s past when the entire planet was sick and dying and could no longer sustain life. A group of wealthy humans, who called themselves "The Chosen,” decided to abandon the Earth. And just as a person might skip across a shallow pond, moving from stone to stone, the human race multiplied and over hundreds of years gradually stretched across the Milky Way in the hope of finding another jewel, another Earth-like planet.

In this time of exploration and colonization, the humans on each of these desolate outposts lived in protected settlements called lifeglobes. Their daily life had a surreal consistency that affected and numbed them. They longed to see beyond the horizon, to feel something new. Because of this, their freedays and evenings were often spent in Rooms. These were extremely sophisticated, holographic, multi-sensory game rooms, which could adapt to each player. Each session in a Room was unique and helped to fill the void created by constantly having to live inside an enclosure, always separated from the outside, never being able to walk open and free.

One of those humans was Rad. He had just moved to the lifeglobe on planet R-131 and was a member of the governing council. However, he was also an elite Rooms’ player. His main reason for coming to R-131 was that he had heard rumors about one particular Room, which was steered by a woman called the “old one.”  It was supposedly unparalleled for its graphic realism and complexity. All the best players were moving there, and for some, like Rad, to be chosen to play it had become an obsession. However, this particular Room had not been designed for entertainment or pleasure. This Room had been created to change the course of human history.

THE CHOSEN

Summary

In the future, the Earth is dying and is abandoned by The Chosen, an elite and powerful, corporate upper-class. Most of their descendants have settled in lifeglobes on various rocks throughout the galaxy. Their original society and culture has been lost and forgotten everywhere except on M-78. On that rock-strewn, resource-laden planet, The Chosen’s way of life has remained in tact for over five centuries, and Harlequin has been their leader ever since leaving Earth.

But now, Harlequin is determined to locate another Earth-like planet to inhabit and exploit. She succeeds in finding one; its name is Loon. And not only does she learn how magnificent Loon is, but at the same time discovers that Earth has reset itself. The Chosen may even be able to reinhabit their ancestral home once again.

This sets up a struggle between two extremely divergent cultures: one where reason, science, and social awareness have created a society in tune with their world; the other, that of The Chosen, whose main philosophy is centered upon the acquisition of profit at any cost.

In The Chosen, these two societies and the unique individuals who inhabit them, tell a story of two worlds on a collision course, with the result being a galactic conflict whose outcome will impact the human race for eons to come.

Check Out the ROOMS' SERIES: Books I and II

The Rooms' Series

If you haven’t read this science fiction duology yet, please check it out. It's as relevant today as when it was first written.

The two books in this series are ROOMS and THE CHOSEN. They were originally published in 2014, and people who have read them often comment on how extremely relevant they remain, even today, in an almost prescient way.

This is because within the plot of the two books there exists a deep and abiding concern over the growth of right-wing, autocratic governments across the globe that come to power often times by  promising their citizens that only they can improve their lives. However, in the end, these types of governments are influenced much more by the interests of large corporations and wealthy oligarchs than by anything else. When that is the case, terrible consequences inevitably arise for the poor, the middle class, for worker’s rights, the environment, for freedom, and for democracy in general. This could even be beginning to happen in the United States right now.

Look at the election that we just had and the first couple months of this administration. Soon, people in the U. S. may no longer have a government “of, by, and for the people”, but one that is autocratic and oligarchic in nature that will do everything in its power to support the ultra-wealthy and big corporations, with little respect or consideration for the largest segment of our country, the middle-class and the poor. The “almighty dollar” could become its guiding principle, not the health and happiness of its people overall.

And now, some 65% or more of the citizens of voting age view this administration unfavorably! It is my belief - an hope - that these people are thoughtful and responsible voters who keep themselves up to date on important events, read books and periodicals, travel, understand the difference between truth and lies, and are very tolerant and caring people. I also believe that they have empathy and concern for others, for their country, for the world, and for the environment. They must be the ones to stand up for freedom and democracy no matter the cost.

However, that will not be an easy task because of the 35% of the total voting population that voted against our democracy and are responsible for this mess. That group, I believe, is made up of three kinds of people: those who chose not to vote at all, the wealthy who selfishly wanted more than they already have, or the wantonly ignorant who cast their votes without properly performing their due diligence. The people that I do not hold responsible, even though they did not vote, are the poor, the overworked, the homeless, or anyone who has been denied their basic rights, despite being a citizen of the U. S.

I mention all this because I wrote the Rooms’ Series, in part, to cause people to ponder the possibility of just such a dystopian future. But you must also know that the series contains considerable "hope!" With hard work, a facts-based, scientific approach to life, thoughtful governance, and some luck on our side, the human race still has the potential to overcome whatever lies ahead.

So, please, take a look at the series, with the understanding that it is a very creative and scene-driven story, told from the view of a diverse cast of characters. It takes place in the distant future after most of the human race had already left the Earth because it had become uninhabitable. They are now living inside large, protective lifeglobes on planets, moons, or asteroids that contain enough raw materials to sustain life. None of those heavenly bodies, however, were anything like the Earth of old - a dazzlingly beautiful and diverse celestial orb where all life had once been able to evolve and flourish on its surface with no barriers between them and the "outside."

Below is a brief summary of each of these books.

2nd Edition of ROOMS & THE CHOSEN Released!

                                           2nd Edition                           2nd Edition

The 2nd edition of my young adult science fiction novels Rooms: Book I of the Rooms' Series and The Chosen: Book II of the Rooms' Series have been released. They are both new versions of the older novels that have been revised and edited and include new blurbs on the back.

The series name is new for the two books as well. I don't believe I will be adding any other books to the series so this set will probably be a duology.

The new 2nd edition for both books is now available in either paperback or Kindle eBook on any Amazon site around the world. Just search for "Bob Stegner" to view them. On some Amazon sites you'll need to include the quotation marks around my name.

NEW REVIEW FOR ROOMS!

Below is a new review of my science fiction novel, ROOMS, that was just posted on Goodreads and Amazon.

4 Stars
Rooms by Bob Stegner is a book I won from Goodreads. Thanks so much. It has a very interesting plot line and interesting characters that are well developed. The first part starts a bit slow but it does pick up and get better. I love the concept completely. It seems to be a teen novel and lacks some depth I like but it still is a great sci-fi book.

The book after Rooms in the "Rooms' Series" is titled The Chosen.

ROOMS & THE CHOSEN: New Versions & New Review

Both Rooms and the second book in the series titled, The Chosen, have been rewritten. Below is a recent review of them from a reader in the U. K.

"I very much enjoyed the two books. I have to admit I was intending to read Beatrice first, however, I was curious about Rooms and thought I'd take a peek at the first few pages, then I was hooked. I don't read many science fiction books, but it's nice to have a change. My only complaint is that they weren't long enough. I could have read on and on.

"I was finding that I would stop reading now and again to think about some of the terrible things that are going on in our present day situation. For example, when the people of Loon wanted a peaceful solution to Harlequin and her cronies, I couldn't imagine how you were going to do it. I was delighted with the ending.

"I think you brought pretty much everything in to the books, power hungry, evil, greedy, selfish characters, as well as amazing heroic, kind, loving and caring characters. ...lots of heroes in there. Rad obviously being the favourite."

New Review of Updated Version of ROOMS

Here is a new review for the updated version of Rooms.

Beautifully Written

I just finished the newest version of Rooms. Beautifully written! The story is engaging and holds your interest until the very end. I feel I know all the characters well. I care about them, and if I had not already read the second book in the series, I would be very interested to know what happens to those characters next. I also feel that the first book in the series segues very well into the second.

Rooms Kindle Giveaway Has Ended & NEW FANTASY BOOK UPDATE

The ROOMS Kindle eBook giveaway has ended, and I hope everyone that downloaded ROOMS will enjoy reading it. Thanks for participating!

UPDATE!
CAVE OF DREAMS

As you can see, I've chosen the title for my new fantasy novel. It will be called CAVE OF DREAMS and will be the second book in a series that will follow my fantasy/mystery novel titled Beatrice. Each of the books after Beatrice, though, will be able to be read independently of the others.

I'm truly enjoying the work on CAVE OF DREAMS. I did a lot of research prior to the writing of it and am doing even more as I go along. I'm working hard to make sure it is authentic to Scotland and to the time periods within the plot.

The first four chapters take place during AD 500 and lay the foundation for what happens in the rest of the story, which will take place in modern day Scotland. The book looks like it will be my longest to date, and the plot will be intricate and complex as well as being a lot of fun to write.

I'll let you know more as I progress, but I think it will be at least another six months or so before the book is ready to publish. We'll see how things go...

Letting You Know What's Been Happening!

ROOMS HAS BEEN REVISED
Well, it's been a very busy three weeks since my "Writer's Block" post. Yes, the writer's block went away, and I decided to finally do a major rewrite and edit of Rooms before starting on the sequel to Beatrice. The rewrite is done, and I'm very pleased.

After I completed The Chosen, my writing skills had improved by then, and I wanted to bring Rooms up to the same level as The Chosen. Since they are companion books, it was important that they match up. That's the reason for the rewrite of Rooms. I worked hard on the whole book with special emphasis on the first four chapters. I think the two work together better now, and I'm especially pleased with the new first chapter of Rooms.

I will let all of you know when the changes are published on Amazon in both the paperback and Kindle versions. If you have Rooms in the Kindle version, I would recommend that you wait for the post indicating that the updated version is live on Amazon.com in order to update it on your Kindle. I'll even tell you how to upgrade to the newer version in that post.

If you'd like to read the first three chapters of the new version, just go to the BOB'S BOOKS link at the top of the blog. You'll see the link to the revised chapters.

FIRST AMAZON REVIEW OF THE CHOSEN

An Excellent Read!
I was excited to read the author’s sequel to Rooms, and he did not disappoint me. I was thoroughly impressed by the author’s capacity to not only successfully weave an intricate plot, but to create a variety of complex characters and societies that enriched and promoted that plot. I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time as I read of the struggle between the Loonites and The Chosen to gain control of the Earth’s newly regained resources, the tiny outposts scattered throughout the galaxy, and the human’s who inhabited them. Which society won the right to change the course of human history? I will never tell. However, I will say that it was worth reading the entire novel to find out.

HOW ARE THE AGENT QUERIES GOING?
If you've been following my blog, you'll know that a few weeks ago I sent out a lot of agent queries for both Beatrice and The Chosen. This is my second time to do this, and I've received a lot more responses than before. Also, the responses that I have received have been more instructive and personal. It's been more encouraging, but I still have no takers. It's just the nature of the business, and in the meantime, I'm doing my best to improve as a writer and storyteller. It's not easy to be rejected, but it's part of the process, and I'm determined to succeed. I'll keep writing, thinking, dreaming, and creating!

BOOK PROMOTIONS AND GIVEAWAYS
Also, recently I have run some promotions for all of my books on Amazon. Those promotions have not only increased my readership, but I've received more reviews, and I believe it has kept my books in front of the public because I've continued to sell books every month.

I will do more in that area soon. I'll let you know when that happens and what the nature of the promotions will be.

Thank You!
Thanks to everyone that has one of my books! I hope you have fun reading them! When you finish, if you could write a review, comment on my blog, or send me an email, I would really appreciate it!

And...if you haven't been to my Author's Page on Amazon, take a look by CLICKING HERE.
