Completed Revising and Republishing MERLIN & ARTHUR: THE AWAKENING!

Finished updating and republishing on Amazon worldwide!

Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening

I’ve been writing books since 2013. Since then, I've learned a great deal about writing and storytelling! That’s why I’ve now reworked and republished all six of my books.

I just completed the final one, Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening. It can be ordered on any Amazon site worldwide. It is a fantasy/sci-fi thriller set in the present day!

If you decide you want a copy, as of today the new version is available in the U. S. If you live outside the U.S., I recommend waiting until 15 June to ensure you receive the latest version.

This also means that ALL of six of my books have now been revised and republished! I did not change the stories or characters but refined the books to make them better for my readers.

Below I’ve included the prologue of
Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening, which takes place in the past; the rest of the book is set in the present day!

Prologue

Late 6th Century AD

She had taken the last of his secrets as her own and drained her aged lover, leaving him exhausted. He was stretched out in her arms, barely able to open his eyes any longer. His features were brutally drawn and haggard from the suffering she had caused, and his skin was the colour of tallow. There was no doubt he was slipping away. She held him close and spoke softly as she gave him wine mixed with herbal potions to ease his passing. Despite her acts of tenderness, terrible guilt emerged over what she had done. She assuaged herself with the truth that her love for him had not been false, and that even though his sight and magic had left him long ago, he still possessed considerable knowledge that needed to be shared. Yes, taking it had caused him great pain, but it had to be done before it, too, was lost.

It was becoming more and more difficult for him to breathe. He took what she thought was his last breath; she kissed him and clasped his hands in hers, uttering an enchantment. The crystals above her head flashed as she spoke, and hundreds of bats flew from the cave in a cloud of chaos. The familiar sounds and brilliant light brought him back once more. His eyes opened slightly, then closed again. He shuddered, and a quick, muffled gasp escaped his chest. She continued to hold him close and watch.

Time passed. He lay perfectly still. She bent over and listened for his heartbeat, but there was none. She held her hand in front of his nose and mouth but felt no breath. His eyes remained closed and still. He was gone. Yet the sorcery that she had laid upon him would never truly allow his soul to leave his body; he would never grow completely cold, and it would aid him in his transition if he were to ever awaken again. He had asked this of her, knowing that one day he could be called to serve and walk once more beside his king.

Before departing, she wrapped him in a shroud of light brown linen, leaving his face and long beard exposed. His hands were crossed against his chest, and she made certain that his body was comfortable, placing him on a soft blanket of thick, luxurious lamb’s wool. Throughout the cavern she then placed tall candles of fragrant beeswax. They would burn for a day or two and give his spirit comfort. Beside him, she left bread, cheese, and wine, which she partook of as their last meal together, leaving the remainder as a gift to the gods so that they might watch over and bless him.

She then stood and looked once more around the chamber of rock and dirt. Crystals glimmered from the golden candlelight, his books and a few other possessions scattered about the cavern. Her eyes came to rest on a ring that he wore on the small finger of his right hand. It was the king’s ring—one that he had been given long ago. The thought came to her that now the ring was rightfully hers, but he had served the king so long and so well that she could not take it from him.

There had to be something, though—something that she could bring with her to remember and keep him close. Then it came to her. She pulled her knife from its sheath and knelt down beside him. Grabbing his long white beard, she pulled it towards her and cut a lock of hair from it. It pleased her; she had always loved the look and feel of his beard. Gazing down at the thin strands in her hand, she immediately recalled the many times she had touched and run her fingers through them. She looped the fibers around one finger and placed them inside her pocket. They would never leave her side.

Returning to her feet, she turned and walked outside the entrance of the cave. She glanced back one last time and uttered the words that would seal him inside his tomb beneath the hill. The large slab of rock began to move. Up until that moment, her emotions, except for the strong guilt she felt, had remained numb and silent. Then it dawned on her that she would never see him again. Without warning, powerful feelings arose within her. They choked her, and she sobbed and cried out for him. Salty tears trailed down her cheeks, but the magic could not be undone. She could only stand and watch as her ancient lover disappeared behind the immovable, massive stone.

Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening UPDATE!

As of today, I've completely finished all the revisions of Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening and will now be working on reformatting and republishing the new version on Amazon. I hope to have that finished within about a week of two. As I’m working on that, I'll be camping and traveling down the Washington and Oregon coasts. I love this part of the U. S.!

I have to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed going through Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening again! It’s been quite a while since my last reading of it.

Once Merlin & Arthur is republished, I’ll begin planning and writing my next novel—more about that later! :)

Enjoying Scotland & Progressing on "Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening” Revisions!

Some pics from my time in Scotland!

I’m thoroughly enjoying Scotland while continuing to rework my sci-fi/fantasy novel, Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening. I will republish it as soon as I’ve completed the revisions.

It’s progressing well!  I’m more than halfway through the process! The book has 34 chapters, and I just completed work on Chapter 21!

Once I’m done with Merlin & Arthur, I’ll begin writing my next novel—more about that later! :)

Below, I’ve included a paragraph from Chapter 17 of Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening.

Merlin shrugged and walked back to pick up his staff, then returned to his spot. Tristan showed him where the ship was located on the GPS device Duncan had given him. Then he asked Duncan to keep speaking—it didn’t matter about what; he just needed to focus on his voice for a few moments. He listened carefully, then laid his free hand on Arthur’s shoulder. He told everyone to be ready to cover their eyes and did the same. Murmuring words under his breath, the large crystal at the top of his staff began to pulse with a blue-white light, then exploded in a brilliant flash that lit up the cavern. As quickly as that, he and Arthur vanished from the cave. Within seconds, they reappeared on the deck of the Churchill.

As their feet settled on the rolling deck, Merlin and Arthur opened their eyes. They were astounded by the size of the ship and the number of men and pieces of equipment aboard, but they had little time to take it all in. As soon as they appeared, security officers surrounded them and ushered them directly to mission command. When the escorting officers reached the heavy door to command, they knocked—and it opened.

Travel to Warsaw & Scotland & Progress on Reworking Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening!

Old Town Warsaw, Poland

Inverness, Scotland near the Inverness Castle

While traveling, I’ve continued to rework my sci-fi/fantasy novel, Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening, and will republish it as soon as I’ve completed the work. It’s progressing well!  I’ve finished 11 chapters so far, which means I’m about a third of the way through!

Once I’m done with Merlin & Arthur, I’ll begin writing my next novel—more about that later! :)

Below, I’ve included a paragraph from Chapter 11 of Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening.

Then, unexpectedly, the crowd’s attention was drawn to the dense fog hovering over the lake. It seemed that there were lights deep within it, flickering and dancing. As everyone looked on, the lights became even more agitated and started to rise. Ascending rapidly, they burst into the open air above the thick haze. Their shape and colour became recognizable, and the crowd now saw them for what they were—multiple green and lavender spheres soaring upwards in the direction of St. Michael’s Tower. Halting there, they glittered and swirled around its base, just as the sun’s light touched the horizon. The birth of a new winter was imminent; the crowd let out a collective gasp of wonder, and someone yelled, “Fata Morgana—the Lights of Avalon!” But the vision faded within seconds as the light from the spheres was overtaken by the sunrise. Silence reasserted itself—leaving the onlookers in awe, wondering whether they had actually seen what they thought they had.

Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening - Reworking the Book!

I’m reworking and will be republishing my sci-fi/fantasy novel Merlin & Arthur: The AwakeningI’ve finished 7 chapters so far, only 27 to go!

I’ll be leaving for Europe in a few days and will spend some time over there on that project. Once I’m done redoing Merlin & Arthur, then I’ll begin writing my next novel—more about that later! :)

Below, I’ve included a paragraph from Chapter 7 of Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening. In it, Arthur is having a vision. Enjoy!

He recalled being submerged in a pool of thick, all-consuming blackness. Within that dark place, he moved in and out of consciousness, with snippets of life and moments from a distant past resurfacing. He was utterly alone and knew the gods had abandoned him; yet a lady, whose face he had first seen eons ago, occasionally entered his desolation. When she was there, she provided knowledge and understanding that he would need one day, along with a measure of hope and sustenance amidst the bleakness that enshrouded him. Days, months, and years upon years passed while he floated somewhere between life and death, unable to make a final decision on either. Then, one day—the earth shook.

I’ll soon be leaving on another trip to Europe to visit friends in Poland and Scotland, travel to some sites in Scotland that are in the Alban Saga, and continue reworking and republishing my book Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening.

It’s been too long since my last trip, although I was having fun finishing my new book Vortex—the last book of the Alban Saga.

I’ll continue to check in with you along the way!

Below is an image with a description that I recently received from a family member. It provides another piece of evidence of King Arthur's possible real-life existence!

The print in it is small, so to see it more clearly just click on the image and then zoom your browser window in if you need to. When you're done, you can come back to my blog by just clicking once on the black background surrounding the picture.

This is very exciting and interesting news for anyone who loves the tale in King Arthur!

Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening - A New Review

A new review for
Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening

Have just enjoyed another epic story from Bob Stegner: Merlin & Arthur, The Awakening. Loved the way it jumped between the different characters and timeline. I am not keen on blood and gore, so this simple trick, kept me on board and enthralled. Having experienced tears towards the end of Black Grotto, I did not expect to have more with this story. How wrong could I have been. The last couple of chapters, had me tissues in hand, and struggling to read through the tears. Thank you for weeks of happy reading. On a final note, considering that this story was written pre 2020, and published early 2020, is it just coincidental that it is about a pandemic? Or is Mr Stegner actually a Seer?

The third and final book of the Alban Saga is being written!

Finished Sending Out Agent Queries!

Cover Image

Now Available In Kindle eBook & Paperback On All Amazon Sites Around The World!

I've completed sending out queries to 50 agents for my new book, Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening.

It was a lot of work. Every agent seemed to have slightly different requirements, but I was able to do it all digitally, which helped.

It will be awhile before I hear from them. Most of them said it could be 4-6 weeks.

Once that was done, I went back through the new book one more time and updated it on all the Amazon sites around the globe.

Also, because of the coronavirus, Merlin & Arthur: The Awakening was only available in Kindle eBook format and paperback on Amazon.com until recently. Now you can get it in either format on any Amazon site!
